BUT as of August 30th, I've been here over a year...WOWZA! Our original plan was to at least give it a year...well we surpassed our goal...YAY! I'm not gonna lie, it was a tough year...trying to adjust to a new place, new job is not an easy task but we did and it seems like everything is just falling into place now.

Wes is working and kicking butt, my industry is recovering from the worst crash since the Great Depression. Our cat is no longer howling 24/7 because he misses his bro. We are both making friends. I'm also in the MBA program at UH.

Living in Hawaii is definitely a treat but it is also one of the top 5 most expensive places to live in the United States. We have learned to be very creative with our budget. For example, milk at Foodland (local grocery store) is about $9/gallon!!! I'm a total moo juice lover so going dairy free is not an option. We shop at the big boxes: Costco and Sam's Club. Safeway is to supplement what we couldn't get at Costco or Sam's and only if it's on sale. Farmer's markets are abundant but you have to be careful because sometimes they tend to be more expensive! Chinatown has the best prices on produce hands down.

One thing that I have noticed and love is that people like to share here. If they have a papaya or mango tree, they'll bring you a big bag...free stuff is the best stuff. Gotta love a coconut milk and papaya smoothie. During the holidays, my clients bring TONS of gifts: sushi platters, gift cards, cookies, cakes, candy, Hawaiian popcorn, macadamia nuts, more macadamia nuts. Gotta love generosity!

At times during the last year we questioned whether we made the right decision but as we sit here on a Saturday morning, looking out at the ocean and a new adventure planned...we know we made the RIGHT decision.

AlohaTanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-87467749666413464242009-05-06T01:24:00.000-07:002009-05-06T01:46:22.593-07:00Watchale...it's Cinco de Mayo

Finding good Mexican food in Hawaii is near impossible...correction, it is impossible. Since I always rant to my co-workers about it, I figured I'd grace them with some authentic Mexi treats. I made enchiladas, spanish rice, beans and brought in all the fixin's. Needless, to say it was a BIG hit. I'm on a very restricted diet so I just watched as they devoured the goodies. I could of gone for a big ol' margarita though...double tall, rocks, salt, splash of cran...mmm.

Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-63840171575986952712009-05-06T00:47:00.000-07:002009-05-06T01:21:23.548-07:00It's gonna be a Funging good time...
Hanauma Bay

Hawaii was graced with the cupcake princess' presence! Fu and Jaymee came out for Mindy's wedding and I was able to hang out when work wasn't getting in the way. I love it when visitors come...kinda gets lonely out here on this rock 3000 miles away.

I picked them up from the airport and got them all checked in to the Marriott on the beach...I got them a local discount...the room was awesome...I was a little envious :)

I took the day off work so we could go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay...what an adventure. The weather wsan't the most cooperative but we decided to check it out anyways. I wish my underwater camera hadn't leaked because I would have gotten some priceless pics...you know what I'm talking about Fu. The images are forever ingrained in my brain...Fu thrashing around in about 2 feet of water and then practicing for a spot on my competitive snorkeling team :) Afterward, we indulged in some cupcake goodness from Cake Couture...peanut butter and jelly cupcakes...mmmm. Then it was time for Cheeseburger in Paradise with lava flows, then it was Nobu (waaay overrated) for dinner to see a cute waiter/scooter.

Their last day came way too fast...we floated around on our most awesome floaties, had lunch with more lava flows, had our floaties stolen, bought more floaties, got to see the parallel parker dance moves, made a pit stop for some coconut syrup and hurricane popcorn and voila off to the airport.

It's always so sad when visitors leave :( Had fun girls!!!

Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-45657163795183516142009-04-27T13:34:00.001-07:002009-05-06T00:46:59.970-07:00Maui<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhth5jefnCBqbgvoKps6m5F2_BIeu8B9CnCnIEyskEI85DUT7y6lv-G3cprZQYHXPvVCrf3BlV3bwGycPHadu00S4qWFOoX1gTZUVHR5AqeN7sXXohVRMBfLFGj8E5QRU_20_tqcZBXnjM/s320/maui+whale.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332611747948509202" /> So we took the ferry over to Maui to see Mica and Dave. It was the WORST weather...so windy and cold! Thank god for Dramamine...the Superferry was rocking and rolling. We saw very few whales since it was so windy. We got a last minute room at the Wailea Marriot Beach Resort for $120 on Hotwire....awesome...plus Mica and Dave were staying there too :)

Since we got there pretty early, we ate lunch and met up with our Seattle buds. We decided to go on a snorkeling adventure. We ended up at Makena Landing...the water was fuhreezing and it looked like chocolate milk from churning on the shore. The guys of course had to show off and show us how tough they were. They said it was awesome so Mica and I slowly immersed ourselves. The coral in Maui is AMAZING, nothing like on Oahu. We saw quite a bit of fish and the clarity of the water was surreal. My snorkel mask was leaking a bit so I figured I'd try to snorkel without my mask...um, yeah, I'm a serious douche bag. Opening your eyes under saltwater equals can't see shit...lol. All in all it was a successful snorkel adventure.

The next day we had booked a snorkel tour out to Molokini Crater. It's whale season so there was bound to see lots of whale watching as well. It was so windy but we lucked out by the time we went to Molokini, it was pretty calm and tons of fish. On our way back we cruised around the West side of Maui a bit...got to see Big Beach and Little Beach (nudist beach). We saw tons of whales but the most memorable were the whales that were having sexy time...oh yeah!

It was great to see familiar faces, even if it was just for the weekend!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 222px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL1_m3MYnQlsJT410LVGPF10J07VjXRTvYVoFgK2HrQy9oBYwyVHR2Nji6jar0MTRhSexZ3xv8JD3Pp2EICKC_DvBnkPtN2cCn5hCU09wVUOE-WZwEBUtSakaGsSTWTrtRZq7Xp-_h34I/s320/maui+marriott.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332612624799623778" />
Our hotel in Wailea

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 198px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZv5JfM_ytigkuVSVdU_Q5I_psiOCxIdzzv-WuMuEKmHMEHwqSE9SGJGnU3RIU1-hHaQF3itwLhyV3PtSNfN1MEzxpY_kLMdjf3debZar6T-xRxNPkEWm9uQRJ1zVXRUz9i9QHQlzAdi8/s320/maui+molokini.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332612619255558722" />
Molokini CraterTanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-37604234805505601502009-02-26T08:32:00.000-08:002009-02-26T09:08:57.714-08:00It's been a LONG time!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh731A6FDI5NCPF4VvPLaZBnXrgOIjPnFpbCsNY5iHSGdFXBqjGTifDRMC14GAHenmFm_xNN_7Z62VGiunBOFikdVXXD6GY68ftplh_NBmmEHhRS8CK4OnOMYTYkxlSbcJMQExRcU7h52g/s320/blog+094.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307153224929145458" />

Wow...I have been a VERY BAD blogger, no entries for four months...yikes. A lot has happened since October:

-Completed my move from Seattle, the final move was drama laden and super stressful. In the end our stuff got here, the hubby, 2 cats and 2 clown fish made it.

-4 days after we got here our beloved Cheech died...poor little guy had heart disease and didn't tell us. At least he got to see Hawaii...miss you so much sugar pea :(

-The next day Wes was rear ended.

-That weekend, some crazy guy came running through our living room threatening to kick our ass because he thought we threw a beer bottle at him from the 33rd floor..um no. He then proceeded to kick in the door at out neighbor's downstairs...he was drunk, it was his birthday, he went to jail.

-Our house in Seattle was burglarized...um property manager, you are not supposed to leave 20 newspapers piled up on the porch! Items taken were irreplaceable :( Pics, financial info, Coast Guard uniforms, diplomas.

-Said property manager did not leave the water running, our pipes froze and burst!

-A crazy at the International Market told Wes he looked like Obama and then tried to cut him with a razor blade...apparently the guy had been doing that all day and luckily the police tackled him in haz mat suits!

-Remember the Brady Bunch tiki episode...they took the tiki and they had lots of bad luck...um yeah, I think Wes put some rocks in his pockets or something...haha

-Glad to say all is well now :)

-Went to Omaha for work, it was COLD! Flying to the Midwest from the middle of the Pacific is not fun...I had enough segments/miles that I'm now an MVP mileage member!

-Our house was finally rented!

-We've been checking out new places every week and playing tourist.

-We finally discovered THE turtle beach...so cool.

-All in all, life is settling down and we are settling in.

I promise to be a better blogger. We are heading to Maui this weekend to crash Mica's vacation :) We'll be taking the Hawaii Superferry over for a little whale watching and fly back. Having my HI DL, is awesome cuz I now get kama'aina rates...gotta love a good deal.

Later gatorsTanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-23160872309281626522008-10-29T02:06:00.000-07:002008-10-29T02:28:00.238-07:00Germaine's Luau<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwu_8G1UsN8sZmSx1aAR5ETPOXRcx6XoJEu93RyVvyGgNCjV74eTRXwH2Vxeog9G2WX9I1dnulNutE6XZdbc797kckHjjvl1sOQpRjDl1jRU55YDMRi-0I0UB-Wn5VuBA4ETbRjuMELYE/s320/Germaine's+Luau.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262501744778816034" />

Wednesday we had reservations for Germaine's. I had been like 4 years ago but it's always a treat for first timers. An extra bonus was the kama'aina discount...we got $30 off each ticket cuz I live here...woot woot.

We had to fight a little traffic to get there but it was well worth it. It's located right on Barber's point and the sunsets are pretty amazing.

They did the imu presentation, which ironically Emilie is vegetarian so pulling out the pig from the ground was pretty funny. Those of you who have never tried kalua pork...omg, so missing out...fantabulous.

Our meal tickets also included 3 drink tickets each...guess what we ordered...mai tai's! Although, I was only able to drink two, we had tipped the bartender so he assumed we wanted rum with a splash of juice...oy.

I was a little concerned that Emilie wouldn't get to eat much since she's vegetarian...nope, no worries there...plates were piled to the max. My faves were the kalua pork and the haupia (coconut). Ono grinds :)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMrfuaT-cgilblZYWkT7MU1tZtN0mS9kXlv13KyEK8q1PVSybmAoHpqk0PAopICtPgq6bhE6EYJXUinA594ZKj0ujm_euk8GdKGO4I1vtXQzXTB76glUvstND_6p4PblmH-YqiYrVZ-7M/s320/p50521-Honolulu-Germaines_Luau.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262501935006678722" />
One of the dancers

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWY-_ZUIQi56HX7CD6cveMxY-urB59gmzdgWv3MGHipMaG5VROTJpgSOtQ0nyLS_NsuqiFNEcBGKVhE3mNwB5a7wR8XLfMzYaWycnu2c6VfeE2bV4bSaAjDNcTmJtahyB4gQnvqJ88MS0/s320/emilie+hawaii+006.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262502392559044674" />
Self portrait skills are lacking here :)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYP0GFcYdoXBpPMnpqgQ17-HMw5etc2ly_afVRH8eKPS_YYQA3Q-Wku5hDWnDZAQ_TU1_p6JN71qDKchDqvb0dxrOG2Sn5CIGUwNsVIRZ6mqNP_GIHKPn96fKiytfNAobJALybTeVuAn8/s320/emilie+hawaii+011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262502962782841826" />
Two fisting

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDUbO7WIDiy-tWmOXpIq5oAQX7BM5NPZBBBp_hvgDAl0b9QsOlUibckmHsBr0PR1Dmxg7OHFHzr1omOa8eOwjY76acISPeOp9w1XkdsUl1QIva91y1hUfgK1HZVtLqPcr8HT1dPdbLwdA/s320/emilie+hawaii+010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262502954357129938" />
Nice plate!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-31389417620093276052008-10-29T01:28:00.000-07:002008-10-29T01:57:58.706-07:00Cirque Hawaii and Dukes<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLVREw9Xt0-oYPg2tqojZZfOxqhyphenhyphenlBHocSCk47ZC2Dra377loT2qks8HmvCNkV9FB74GYgkcAOiEuIx78a_o9ux0Ux3zqX0RndPROaaCFyaEH1rRFGRiYzZVVefGSdI9oZVmiv33YkRnk/s320/emilie+hawaii+140.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262493109744187474" />
On Monday Emilie booked us for Cirque Hawaii. I hurried home from work and we cruised over to the theater...were we in for a treat...lol. I'm used to the Vegas Cirques: O, Mystere, Love...um not so much. It was so low budget it was awesome. The acrobatics were impressive none the less. We had a few mai tai's and yesterday's overly buttery popcorn. They pulled some dudes out of the crowd to embarrass themselves and then on to the show. I got in trouble for taking pictures...seriously? my flash was off too...lame.

Afterwards, we headed over to Dukes for some more mai tai's...seeing a trend here? We had a great time, good food, awesome music, great drinks and lots of self portraits.

I live pretty close to the beach but stumbling back at night was quite the adventure...haha.

<img style="float:center; First off, the parking lot is a mad house, even the spots in BFE are taken. Getting in and maneuvering your cart takes a special talent!!! Holy shiz...there are real live cart traffic jams...puts 520 to shame...lol. I got my milk and a few other things that of course were not on my list..can't pass up pineapples from Maui :)

2nd was Koko Head. It's 1059 steps to the top, going over old rail ties. Half way up is a ravine that you have to climb over...best not to look down! When I went 3 weeks ago, my heart rate was soaring and I seriously thought I was going to pass out. My legs were like jelly coming down. This time around, not so much. My heart rate was much lower and I made it to the top in 35 minutes. I even had my backpack on, full of frozen bottles of water. My daily 6 mile walks to work are paying off :) The hike is pretty crazy but the carrot at the end of the stick is the AMAZING 360 views from the top. It was clear today, so I was able to see Molokai in the distance, as well as the body surfers at Sandy Beach.

Good times today and to top it off...Desperate Housewives season premiere...woohoo.

Back to work tomorrow and 5 more days til the weekend. A friend of mine is coming to town for a week...should be good times. Can't wait to show her my new home and all the amazing things it has to offer :)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzW6v3bfZvtYnX7AmTnmwfw4TXOw3bK8STj3xR7zapyqzZFbZvjfFZMeWSuDqgh-SzQea-UcR6OvmH7cJviVpOhTcLOL868qZVgt4klcPpgTbKQubzBO2si2bfTBqLWo913YB3Dv5i_Y0/s320/blog+009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251363085704874850" />
Half way up

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPZBq0zsxYFamO_mJz-7c8KjXmrrnBw-iRTuSOErEjNYcoZrSRBAIvNaQQQaTmIPHA22vYt2yixOz5qb89YXPCqhWcoV0Xu1InnqcOQbsLGcc7oWL8czLPvVO4JbyHvlvjwipFAE_Wwbk/s320/blog+008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251363088772530818" />
View of Hawaii Kai from the halfway point

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyWPHlKUdI2KcP7h3GgHCUhBDj_fCeU5yKnl8bTUcGDx36euxNpabgTJAu9LHwavUp7OJuhmGSgwsQ4Ox2SFEBtJY7XTj0p2i3HB-22pSHBOVp7D5WpGRF8yjheijIb9qjjXvAPOZjBAA/s320/blog+010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251363095946120098" />
Hanauma Bay

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMkx2J_NFArDEUN9wM_Bwz4b-aJVMtQtOA5a1Rbprebl5woz62mujs58GuyNl7ZEw1crUnexvMcModDqe5vlXoeuDrcFnJdfg4WfqlHMZ5IScP_dSvFNu_f1lWAXL6SaiV7gOjMPjfhEE/s320/blog+033.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251363094329857762" />
From the very top

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfwNcRrk0d76-wPYYlIiU2x2CImKHMYzkA1Z0YY9D1qYS262YDxkUXUDwz_6Emodhvk7CZS9EL6cqrFYmY6w5C-PCZj84POneU_qIkw1-od_Wrp3ALfQu1cFEKvwGellVGlK6qfQrYN48/s320/blog+034.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251363098649437410" />
Koko CraterTanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-73445715018095796982008-09-27T23:27:00.001-07:002008-09-28T00:05:28.717-07:00Grateful<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMj3dHNO7tThrrsWMTpAChX47QYTWmxrJL5Kn9QTcToeO2HAFQh5Sp6iyoccwivyn2QwahOeeOKpxhxRMOtACqbEIo2zaS4Ck2w-HhL_7Ku51aSWsSOmZSPW5E_lVtJb0IyPdFCLvycHo/s400/blog+246.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250955494896946386" />

I'm seriously grateful today. I spent most of the afternoon on the beach right in front of Duke's, listening to the live music, people watching, swimming and hanging around to watch the sunset. As 6:30 approached, swarms of people came out on the beach to take pics of the sunset. It really made me appreciate what I had...I live in paradise and get to see/do these things every day and these peeps are on vacation and if they are lucky, they get to do it for about a week once a year. As I walked back to my apartment, I had a little extra skip in my step :)

Earlier in the day, I cruised over to Cake Couture to check out their cupcake goodness. Funny thing, is that I had been to their location (they are in a strip mall) in May and didn't even know it! The shop was cute and their cupcakes looked SUPER YUMMO. They only make certain flavors on certain days, so no marshmallow today :( BUT they did have chocolate haupia (coconut filling) cupcakes with a scrumptious whipped cream topping with chocolate shavings...got one of those and also a vanilla one, just cuz it had a pink wrapper...lol. Since it was really hot out, I figured I better eat the chocolate one asap. OMG, it was to die for!!! I wore half of it on my face. Cake Couture was definitely much better than Hokulani Bakery.

So I wanted some milk to go with my cupcake goodness, so I walked into Foodland next door. Um, $8 for a gallon...yeah no...I'll wait to get it at Costco for $4. While I was looking at the milk, the OJ was there too...$10 for a gallon of freaking OJ!!! Oh and get this...you know Tampico Punch...the super ghetto fruit juice that sells for .99/gallon...here it's $5/gallon!!!! Needless to say, I drink a lot of water...lol.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAvnSchIZvFrgUyuwm-Lg5TU1s-nsZKN30AxyA-pvP7MXPGs3uqBL1vorzwYmj6Dm3PTnolL-LxyKC-rYz0UnYV7_fLSg-9ULFZJI1oXWI6-xnvwuO-fY2EgJk9Df72AVWQzwf-3CvP_E/s400/blog+236.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250962309301725650" />
Cake Couture

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOwUhR6VSoVY1lsYHaA9VqJz8I-i_3_UuSakK4QQOXe926sWDr10d6ASMINpZ7sUq6c51hQaHXdXDshpE0s5qLHsSr9Cl9Buzw2eir0g31Yb7ykdm2GjVPaE2_Erbb3d1ZhpsdBa3X6zo/s400/blog+237.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250963282270248402" />
The goods on my dashboard...lol

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLIFMr5IIWLcEHu0Ao2VNb8ihFsDon7w4MkIy4f8e25YIjTistKtn2MFbLVo7TbC5mm7TpTstsp8zksEJBi3X47-WZmRwcR4ebwjkGgXE-KEIJv2T5AiY_iijEPOXEhW6D3PYIkRHXQw4/s400/blog+240.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250962315081032306" />
Coconut filling in the middle...YUM!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlIKMYbRz61H468z4wZ_qOxxNN1m-XRweA00EJpbJP_PMWaVz0p6NrE3cuumKdZZMiwqNTwanjldlwF1JU_muj69IzxT7xMIit3IW2HQMcT327GA7Z3ZSnTvhh6HnShLr43pAgqRPBnSk/s400/blog+244.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250962320927266450" />
Sunset

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW2WE4NGhg0ZHqLirp9q_56a6k29cQdJ7qV7ad9waeEkrPEOc51xKx2-SjdrRvY4soCyO4ps_o8i6IU492gqA37k0gFeeiXPHswV_g_Bw7XxewwX98X9l6l6-HqILYn_DsmFcVN5TBLBc/s400/blog+241.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250962323103063890" />
Chilling by the waterTanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-62024640720391081992008-09-27T02:03:00.000-07:002008-09-27T02:09:30.779-07:00Hey Mac...<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggNj_sJBd8wXTqwsQ9UdcgBlmVfW_20suh8htyhiVp_6eV_xlrrBv5igiRlTogOaM1TEz3qwXXhGZArHZ9RVmV-l57rY2GsQnGXXu-g5WxVb1IvYabtAu2iWGP_1OQ56cECrKeSmyFLNU/s320/Wedding+775.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250625480741233682" />
it's cheese. When I walked out the door I could smell the coffee...it smelled soooooooo good and I don't even drink coffee! Also made me miss home...hubby, cats and friends. But as I walked to work, jamming to my tunes on my iPod, I saw the most incredible rainbows...also a DOUBLE rainbow...never seen one of those before! I also proceeded to get soaked. It rained so freaking hard, I was completely soaked from sweat and rain...gross...oh well, at least it wasn't cold.

After work I cruised over to Restaurant Row to the Hokulani Bake Shop to try out some of their cupcakes. It's a cute little shop and some pretty good flavors to choose from. I got a Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Cupcake and a Paradise Coconut Cupcake. They also had really cute cookies so I got a shaka cookie that said 'mahalo.'

As I was walking with my cute little box of cupcakes...low and behold here comes the effing monsoon again...almost the exact same place it soaked me in the morning! Needless to say, I was hauling ass trying to get home and make sure my little cupcakes were safe :)

They made it safely and I got to test them...very good. A little dense and very rich, but not dry in the least. I'm excited to try Cake Couture this weekend...but that means I will have to climb Koko Head to burn it off :::sigh:::

Is it bad that all I had for dinner was 2 cupcakes??? Gotta love it!

I'm finally done with all my online training and I get to get my hands dirty at work tomorrow...woohoo. Although with the current market conditions...should be GREAT times...lol. I did find out today that my company will pay for my MBA...UH here I come!

Plate lunches...must stop eating them! Every day someone is buying us lunch or bringing in manapua or malsadas...OMG...the 6 miles I'm walking everyday is just for maintaining...jeez. Good thing I have a gym in my new place!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-22847481005179464702008-09-21T23:58:00.000-07:002008-09-22T00:08:31.975-07:00Mai Tai Bar<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw0ATIzggHVidOJ_JAcFevy2YmycNGEL6qXny3RHSBqFh3L7DL5VNHLTdECTRB2RMYbMcWtTxpoyfeONCMgQTXc2smJUI679Nb0bW2-HCVrGKcY6SjV_uCRJlwxS2WiS241qweDnEdqp8/s320/mai+tai+bar.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248739111769325554" />
So today was super chill. I was going to head out to Koko Head and climb today but I was so fried from Kailua that I decided to give the melanoma a rest today. So I cruised over to my other apartment and checked out the new weight machines we got and they had a trainer showing us how to adjust...blah blah. After I cruised across the street and got some octopus poke and chocolate haupia (coconut pudding) cake. Took a nap and then headed out to the Mai Tai Bar at Ala Moana with my co-worker, Jean. Dude...they mean business, they are freaking strong mai tai's. Good pupus too...poke, calamari and chix tenders w/huli huli! Good times to be had at the Mai Tai Bar :)

Aloha and asta manana!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-54762221658005537512008-09-20T21:27:00.000-07:002008-09-22T00:20:17.135-07:00Kailua for breakfast...<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFRTOyYKQiZ2KobLGSyyHmnQDkWh4DgSujN3ERgkywMlSEIi9EVc0lFUK4SLzmRoOvhT3HZNIbC80_aakkdDwLygmESanyDcre0zro8tXdMaIlMck6HvhGYaVoKOrJZHzYEbYhJoBjsX8/s320/boots_sign.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248742144285697602" />

I met up with an old co-worker today! She was in Kailua for a wedding so we decided to eat at Boots & Kimo's for their famous banana pancakes with macadamia nut sauce and and pulehu ribs...YUMMO! It held me over for the entire day.

Since I was already out there, I decided to make it a day and hang out at the beach...Kailua is probably the most beautiful on Oahu. It's also a popular spot for paddle canoes and kayaking. The water is the most amazing color I've ever seen and the sand is almost white and super fine/soft. I enjoyed laying there and people watching and would take a dip in the water to cool off. Turns out I got to swim with a turtle!!! It was so close to shore and was just coming up for air.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6QCH_TGoTprIya5PZe4-JkStg-97Jnc2yxdJzdgWQxsTIVxXfMwhKlxtifI7FMTvQvn9rMZApodM8AOZ8c8-vt4zmWB4zzpI6zkrZagFwl4f2PEBXPxGy-Ao31AMGfdLF2oxuj2yrZKc/s320/blog+114.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248334784544693890" />

A message for my special biatches!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipVFtT8xkKoUuIbNrMuxs3Z1lj83lTFkL02C-c5ndljeRV-T1_oIQ6nUcEZOvHcJZ02Ve5_iKNSdhBhl0BSHaL94c1qC_apDmou7q_VfuT0ZTwLTVhCiVuhdjOy26BcBVv-oSJlkwjJVQ/s320/blog+115.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248335978182653682" />
This was the cutest dog, he was chilling on the beach with me and would go chase his ball in the water.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcfW5LZZlbh7oHo5V2ZPXuTCFIubJyEptxzDegq7ygbxLA6hN3r2TUxAWl2sw_oTm_HCMkyHNNQ2vMCPgyXClknN06pQytDERfyuWhwrSs6PdMZh1URvjh1_VVfnW3mnWk4ZI7-Un6nEI/s320/blog+112.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248337523258032578" />
My lucky penny I found in the sand.

After frying myself, I headed back and since I had taken the Pali Highway...there are few look outs including the Pali lookout where you can see the steep mountains where Kamehameha threw warriors over the cliffs. Today was CRAZY at work especially with all the effing craziness with the market. Who knew that the reserve money market was gonna fall under a buck!!!! I was fielding angry peeps all day...ay ya yi! But I did get a check for $1.1M...NICE...and some other dude wrote me a check for half a mil! The day had a perfect ending. One of our money managers is in town and took us out for some bomb ass Japanese beer...Echigo and some serious sushi.

After getting home, I cruised over to my other apartment, just cuz I could and laid on the couch for awhile and read Honolulu's Best...I found where I can get the best cupcake...Cake Couture...watch out!

A good buddy is in town so I'm excited to see her this week!!! Bring on the mai tai's...woo hoo.

Asta pastas!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-10360470209607521372008-09-15T23:14:00.000-07:002008-09-15T23:39:06.949-07:00My car has arrived!!!My phone rang about 9:30 this morning and I almost let voicemail pick it up...good thing I didn't cuz it was Matson telling me my car had arrived and was ready for pick up!!! My very awesome boss gave me a ride to pick it up. My dumb ass was contemplating walking to go get it...5 miles in the industrial side of town...probably not a good idea...duh. It felt so weird driving my car in a new place...none of my preset stations worked, the air coming through the windows even smells different. Cruising along Ala Moana to some Hawaiian tunes was a very odd/awesome feeling :)

I've been thoroughly enjoying my walks to work in the morning...it's almost 3 miles but the weather is so beautiful...riding the bus seems like a waste. My favorite part of the walk is going by Ward Center...they have tons of plumeria trees lining it and the smell is almost orgasmic...takes you to another world, especially if you close yours eyes for a second...the smell of the plumeria and the surf from across the street...to die for.

I get my keys to my new place tomorrow!!! So for 2 weeks, I will have 2 homes in Waikiki...that'll never happen again...lol.

Here are some pics of my new digs...these are not my pics...from craigslist ad...I'll try and bring my camera tomorrow and take pics :)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7WOKFCCvIgOvwyCCsdOFkZBLhigjSPFKQFHCZ7H1yg7I__UhxnWc-NrLZZ2whrjdJlMTTrJS7uFBcikTNYNtKMOnLqkVdFwDkBwTHqsiRGwNX_dAzevm4io_C68DDQ1Soo5B-H3iiyVs/s320/apt3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246502069341381602" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMaPOvl2Qt7gAvFnTwZrgeB5L8wcS_SS3V565CmQCHHCT5T41Lex9E2gYUxAy-NkswMQPMT1zOTFETajCPAI0J2K0y5g6dLlGz_cgVkJ178o034zzd5aT5rQswbXqlrwmWujxW36yz_EU/s320/apt2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246501980143159490" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlqEZSsGkIRZ10dtEiVgRH5qmMS_mYahJvoO2pn3occjuLl0h-BQz0R_219ICBY96Y7hbpchM6omOwWpPPH0cvb5PsJYAdQHJjRVXhZbsE13ZOt-00K2DCEO8BpX_hAQWh-EkNXrX8Jnc/s320/apt1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246501885960449762" />Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-33052954592597756622008-09-13T23:33:00.000-07:002008-09-14T00:06:20.071-07:002 weeks already!!!Wow, it's been 2 weeks since I arrived!!! I've been very bad at updating...mostly cuz I've been stressing about finding a permanent place to live! Never fear...today was the day that I found our "permanent" place to call home! Funny thing is that I can see my new home from my current home...lol...I can look out my bedroom window and see my new building. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the location I'm at...not smack in Waikiki with all the tourists but close enough. I'm right off of Ala Moana Blvd across from the Ilikai and Hilton Hawaiian Village (fireworks every Friday!).

My new apt is a tiny 2 bedroom but has some awesome amenities: saltwater pool, gas bbq's, gazebos, putting green, 2 party rooms, library, weight room, cardio room, ping pong...haha, 2 PARKINGS (unheard of in Waikiki), bike storage, board stoarage, across the street from a grocery store, bank and it's not on a super busy street :) I LOVE IT and it's about a 2 minute walk to the water!!!

To celebrate my new apartment...I went to the beach and slathered on my super awesome "browning" lotion and fell asleep on the beach. Lots of VOG today and I guess it makes you tired? Guess so, I was drooling on my book when I woke up.

So what have I been up to the last couple weeks...

-my first day of work
-moving offices to a new building
-learning the bus system
-looking for a place to live
-climbing Koko Head (1059 steps to the top!)
-renting a car and hanging out with some friends in Ewa Beach
-learning how to pronounce things
-surviving the busiest Costco in the country
-walking, walking, walking...I even walk 3 miles to work everyday!
-trying to adjust to the time change
-watched the Aloha Parade

All in all, life in the land of Aloha is fantabulous :)Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-56284151544273814842008-09-01T19:34:00.000-07:002008-09-01T19:46:34.248-07:00Labor DayHoly shiz I walked A LOT today! Since I brought lots of long sleeve shirts with me, I figured I should get some cute short sleeve tops so I don't burn up. I had some gift cards to Macy's and wanted to go to Walmart to get some snacks for my mini fridge. Armed with my flip flops (rubbah slippas), iPod and beach bag, I hit the streets.

The Macy's in Waikiki is a mini one and not much selection but the staff was uber friendly. I had an expired registry rewards card and they went out of their way so I could spend my $11...lol. They gave me a map to the Macy's at Ala Moana...the lady told me to take the bus but I was being cheap and didn't want to pay the $2...I'd rather walk. Boy did I walk!!! It was hot out and I hadn't really eaten much. By the time I got to the mall I was dripping and my shorts were falling down, like butt crack falling down...lol. I passed a girl with a Ross bag...my cheap ass heart skipped a beat...woohoo! Got some stuff at Macy's and asked how to get to Walmart/Ross and headed to the food court...it was effing packed! Um, yeah, I think I'll just get something I can eat and walk with. So I got real creative and got an acai jamba juice :) I then cruised over to Nordie's to see if they had an Anastasia counter because mama's gotta have perfect brows! THEY DID! The lady at the counter was super helpful and gave me the waxer's card and showed me the way to Walmart...like literally walked all the way out the door with me...talk about Aloha spirit! I have encountered nothing but overwhelmingly nice people...makes me smile :)

I am now off to watch the Champions parade...I guess it's the little league world series or something like that.

Tomorrow is my first day of work...I'm actually very excited!!! I have to figure out my bus route cuz my walk would be 3.5 miles...um no.

Off to the parade...aloha!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-14099128020809601032008-08-31T14:55:00.000-07:002008-08-31T15:07:34.493-07:00My first full day in Hawaii!!!I woke up at 4am Hawaii time, which is still sleeping in Seattle time. I cruised the internet and watched TV and ate my left over teri burger and cold ass fries. Also downed about 20 gallons of water. Did I mention that I'm living at the Marriot Resort and Spa on Waikiki! Only for about a week til they find me an apartment...I'll take it :)

By 9:30am I was out surfing!!! Wes' friend Ryan lives here and is now a surf instructor...yay for me. I'm not gonna lie, I was scared shitless. Once I got up on my first wave and biffed it really hard, it was all good. I love it and want to do it all time! I did jam my toe on some coral trying to get back on the board...I guess that's not too shabby for living in paradiso :) I am now cruising craigslist for a board!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-24917724122631475112008-08-31T14:25:00.000-07:002008-08-31T14:51:34.543-07:00Sayonara SeattleYesterday was rough! Giving my cats a last hug for awhile and they knew something was up...they were squeaking at me :( Saying goodbye to my honey...I think the longest we've ever been apart is about a week, when we've gone on vacations to visit friends or family. Watching him waving furiously as I walked through security was heartbreaking. The security guy asked if I was okay and then I lost it completely. I just stood there in a daze as they (security) ran my bags through about 3 times...yes, I had stuffed my whole life in 3 bags :) I timed it perfectly, by the time I got to my departing gate, they were already boarding. Me and my 3 bags stuffed ourselves on to the plane, granted I snuck an extra one on...haha.

I love flying Alaska and the little treats they offer. Granted, I usually fly first class and this time I was in coach. So I had reserved a digeplayer for my 6 hour flight and loaded my bag with snacks. I declined the beverages cuz I was stuck in a window seat and didn't want to get up to go pee. Once I got my digeplayer, I noticed that there were two headphone jacks so I asked the poor girl that was squished in the middle if she wanted to plug in and watch movies with me. We watched Shutter and Juno. It was my first time watching Juno...LOVED IT. I love that girl! My favorite...you are my macaroni and I am your cheese...that's me and buns :)

It just so happened that my neighbor in the middle was moving out to Honolulu too! Just add water or a digeplayer and we became friends...we even hugged after her ride came and picked her up.

I was getting picked up by new boss and his family. Can I just say, I've NEVER received a warmer welcome! His family picked me up and his 3 year old son put a beautiful lei on me. My boss had a bag full of snacks for me and a ton of books about Hawaiian life and how to learn pidgin books...lol...wha dat? They then took me to lunch and checked me into the hotel on the beach!

I had only gotten about 3 hours of sleep the night before because as usual as I was rolling how I roll...last minute. Stuffing my life into space bags and sucking the life out of them with a vacuum. Lucky for me, and pure luck, my 2 checked bags weighed 47.6 pounds each...no overage fee for me. I digress...once I got into the hotel and the bellboy left...I collapsed for 15 hours. I was beyond exhausted...physically and mostly emotionally.Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489780500581884506.post-44680690422549002042008-05-26T09:44:00.000-07:002008-05-26T12:18:56.996-07:00Skydiving!So for Wes' 30th birthday surprise, I took him skydiving. He had been saying that he would love to do it but I didn't quite believe him 100%. I was able to keep the secret all the way until we pulled into the airfield and he saw the big skydiving sign. He was utterly surprised. When he found out that I was doing it too, it was even a better surprise. I've never wanted to do it so I had months to prepare myself. It was a gorgeous day out on Oahu's North Shore and I was in great hands. Enjoy!

Tanya:

Wes:
Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15195721422872548966noreply@blogger.com0
